The default delivery will remain as remote delivery via Microsoft Teams administered by CPD@UCS. This is reflected in the content/ timings as stated. Should Government policy/University of Chester policy change we will revert to ‘face2face’ delivery if/ when appropriate. 

This training is for Registered Persons, Committee members with Safeguarding responsibilities and Early Years Practitioners in senior roles such as Managers, Deputies, Room Leaders or Childminders who will be taking on the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead or Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead in Early Years and Childcare Settings (NOT SCHOOLS) 

Please note: Part 1 and 2 of this training must be accessed to receive certification


Intended Outcomes Part 1:

  • Delegates will have the opportunity to:
  • Re-cap on the requirements for Early Years and Childcare Providers in relation to safeguarding and protecting children.
  • Explore the Shropshire Safeguarding Community Partnership (SSCP) threshold document and the current SSCP priorities
  • Develop their knowledge on what constitutes harm and the categories of child abuse and the ‘Trigger Trio’
  • Consider aspects of cultural safeguarding
  • Begin to explore the role and responsibilities of the DSL in Early Years and Childcare Settings


Intended Outcomes Part 2:

  • Delegates will have the opportunity to:
  • Review and discuss their work-based gap task
  • Re-cap on the definition of Neglect and appraise a Serious Case Review and discuss learning
  • Explore what is meant by Disguised Compliance and Professional Curiosity
  • Consider the barriers that may present to making a referral and having difficult conversations
  • Improve their understanding of the importance of effective recording keeping including Chronologies
  • Re-cap the SSCP referral process and pathways
  • Reinforce their understanding of safer working practices.
