Suitable for all

Children have many misconceptions in their
scientific understanding. These misconceptions can prevent them from moving
their learning forward and create barriers to grasping new concepts and
building up their knowledge.
This half -day course identifies the most common
misconceptions children have linked to the primary science curriculum.
During this
session, we will cover, background knowledge, ideas, activities and approaches to
help ensure that pupils have the best possible chance of replacing their misconceptions
in science with current scientific thinking and lay firm foundations for
increased scientific understanding.
Outcomes
Schools
will:
- To become aware
of the common misconceptions held by children in all topics in the current
national curriculum for primary science.
- To understand
the background scientific knowledge for these common misconceptions.
- To leave with a
range of ideas, activities, and teaching approaches to help children let
go of misconceptions and form new ideas.
