Content

The course focuses on pupils newly arrived from overseas with English as an Additional Language.  The session will provide an opportunity for participants to become familiar with:
• models of good practice in induction for pupils and families with English as an Additional Language
• practical classroom strategies that will enable new arrivals/ new to English pupils to access the curriculum
• assessment of newly arrived pupils, and its implications for teaching and learning
• resources available for the support of newly arrived pupils

Outcomes

Participants will
• gain an overview of best practice in teaching new to English pupils
• become familiar with the assessment scale for English language proficiency
• gain a variety of practical approaches to meeting the needs of New to English pupils
